Need help with chemistry?

It is not uncommon for students everywhere to become very confused by the subject of chemistry, especially when the fundamental principles of the subject haven’t been well understood. Without a thorough understanding of these basic principles, many students find they often haven’t much of a clue as to what is going on in lessons at school. If this sounds like you, the best way to make progress is through hiring a private tutor. A private chemistry tutor will work with you to discover exactly where the gaps are in your understanding of the fundamentals of the subject and then systematically begin to eradicate these weaknesses which are holding you back.

Once you have mastered the basic principles, it then becomes possible to make real progress. You will begin to understand what the teacher was talking about all along and lessons will become much more interesting and fulfilling.

Can I help you with chemistry tuition?

Perhaps you are already reasonably good at chemistry but need to achieve a top grade at A-level or GCSE in order to proceed to university or A-levels. In this case, you will be looking for a tutor who has the skills to teach you everything you need to know to tackle even the most challenging topics.

The tutor must have the experience to know the key areas on which you should focus your attention as well as a thorough knowledge of the subject that ideally goes well-beyond the level being covered.

Even if you are a high-flyer, there may be a few areas of the syllabus that you don’t fully understand and perhaps the teacher at school hasn’t the time to go though these at the level of detail you would like preferring to just cover the minimum for the examination. If you really want a deeper understanding that will allow you to tackle even the most challenging exam questions, as your tutor, I would be happy to oblige.

I tutor chemistry at all secondary school levels, including:
  • A-level Chemistry
  • GCSE Chemistry (years 10 – 11)
  • GCSE Combined Science (years 10 – 11)
  • Lower Secondary Chemistry (years 7 – 9)
My Qualifications as a Chemistry Tutor

Here is a brief summary of my experience and qualifications:

  • 1st class degree in chemistry, Birkbeck College, University of London
  • PhD in chemistry, King’s College, University of London
  • PGCE, university of Oxford
  • 30+ years’ teaching and tutoring experience
  • Experienced A-level examiner
  • Up-to-date DBS certificate

What are the benefits of one-to-one chemistry tuition?

  • As your tutor, I will quickly be able to assess where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Work can then focus on eradicating these weaknesses.
  • Working with just one student at a time, each topic can be taught in a way that works best for that individual student.
  • Any difficulties can be cleared up immediately as, working with just one student at a time, it is easy to see when that student is following along or is starting to struggle.
  • The pace of learning is much faster than at school: there are no distractions and any problems are dealt with immediately.
  • I can review recent work done at school which may have not been followed by the student. Problems can therefore be quickly cleared up in our one-to-one sessions allowing the student to return to school with a much better understanding of the topic.
  • The A-level or GCSE examination specification is followed systematically to ensure that all of the required work is covered in tutorials in good time for the examination.
  • Examination technique is improved through ensuring each student has plenty of past-paper practice with subsequent correction, analysis and guidance on how to improve.
  • All of the above will lead to much greater confidence, knowledge and understanding, thus leading to better results in tests and exams.

Victor is a wonderful tutor! He explains concepts with such enthusiasm and clarity that I left each lesson not only more confident but with a real interest in the subject. I believe that Victor’s guidance in Chemistry and Maths were invaluable in helping me to obtain A*s in all of my A-levels and securing a place at Oxford to study medicine.
