I am a professional and independent tutor of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. I have qualified teacher status and have an excellent academic record as well as over 30 years’ teaching and tutoring experience.
I have been based in Teddington, Middlesex, for the past six years and, in that time, I have been tutoring boys and girls from a number of local schools including: Hampton School, Kingston Grammar School, King’s College School, Lady Eleanor Holles, Teddington School, Tiffin School, The Tiffin School for Girls, Twickenham School and Waldergrave School.
Prior to moving to Teddington, I lived and worked as a teacher and tutor in Sutton, Surrey, and tutored pupils from local schools including: Nonsuch High School, St Philomena’s, Sutton Grammar School, Sutton High School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington School for Girls and Wilson’s School.
I am constantly reflecting and thinking of alternative methods for tutoring to different kinds of students and the exciting thing is that, whilst I may have covered the same topics hundreds of times, each student is different and therefore each lesson remains fresh and invigorating.
Outside of tutoring, I am a very keen golfer and a chess enthusiast.
Immediately following school, I attended Bristol university from where I successfully graduated with an honours degree in Mathematics with Physics.
I next spent a year at Oxford University, gaining a teaching qualification: a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
Some years later, I took a degree in Chemistry from Birkbeck College, University of London, graduating with first-class honours.
I enjoyed Chemistry so much that I then took a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry at King’s College, University of London!
I went straight from Oxford to Harrow School, where I began my teaching career and where I remained for a number of years, teaching Mathematics as well as coaching tennis and chess at this famous independent boarding school.
After Harrow, I taught for a number of years at the following schools: City of London School for Boys, Royal Russell School in Croydon and Kingston Grammar School.
In addition to school teaching, I have tutored for 25 years or so and have a total of approximately 20,000 hours of tutoring experience.
I have taught and continue to tutor the following subjects: Maths, Further Maths, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry.
I have an in-depth knowledge of the specifications for all the main A-level and GCSE Examination Boards (OCR, AQA and Edexcel) and am very aware of the subtle changes that were made when the new syllabuses were introduced a few years’ ago.
I also have plenty of experience preparing students for University Admissions Tests in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering and Medicine. These tests include the following:
Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT), University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT), Engineering Admissions Assessment (ENGAA), Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP), Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment (NSAA) and Mathematics Admission Test (MAT).
I am also an experienced examiner for the Edexcel Examination Board.
